MTN is a leading internet service provider in Nigeria. They offer daily data plans, weekly data plans, and monthly data plans, even up to yearly subscriptions. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. MTN has been doing that for a very long time now.
Which MTN plan is the cheapest for data?
MTN TUESDAY AWUF is the cheapest plan for data as of today. The only hiccup here in using this plan is the fact that it is valid on Tuesdays only. You also need to install myMTN app to be able to activate this plan. Now, how much data do you get?
100 Naira will get you a whooping (100MB + 900MB) = 1GB
500 Naira will get you (2.5GB + 2.5GB) = 5GB
Steps To Use Plan:
- Open the play store app on your phone (or any kind of app store your phone support)
- Search for “myMTN”
- Download the app
- Open the app and use your MTN number to register.
- After registering, you can wait till Tuesday to use this offer.
TIP: If you are registering your number for the first time on myMTN app, you’ll also get a free 500MB.
Seriously, if not for the fact this plan is only available on Tuesdays, it could have been the coolest data plan for the average internet user. Imagine being able to do this plan every day, even if there is a limitation to doing it once. Everyone would be rushing to buy an MTN SIM card. We just hope they make this plan a regular plan and not just one-off a week thing.
What can I use to subscribe to MTN?
You can use a USSD code, or SMS to subscribe to any plan on MTN. You can also subscribe directly from any bank app that supports MTN data subscription. Also, you can download and use the myMTN app.
What is the code for the MTN data plan?
The general USSD code to subscribe to the MTN data plan is *131#. Although there are tons of USSD codes to subscribe to MTN packages like *131*500# if you are using Mi-Fi or *406# if you are on MTN Pulse.

MTN 2.5GB for 500 Naira
MTN 2.5GB for 500 naira is a data plan I use a lot, although it is only valid for just 2 days. I normally use this data whenever I needed to update my blog and youtube channel. It is actually good if you wanted to use data on your pc. The good thing about this MTN data plan just like most MTN data plans is the fact that you can roll over your unused data.
MTN Pay As You Go
MTN as of this time of writing charges 5 kb/kb (laughs), that is, 5 kobo per kilobyte for PAYG (pay as you go) browsing. Browsing on a pay-as-you-go is expensive for most users. So it is a good idea to migrate to an internet plan using its internet browsing codes as they offer more value for money.
Bottom Line
MTN for me currently gives the best value for data and their 4G network is technically better than other networks. Airtel is doing a good job meeting the standard while Glo gives a better volume of data (Glo network availability is just the issue). I will update this post soon. Make sure to bookmark this page.
